The Jakarta Komodos Rugby Football Club’s Senior Team is Indonesia’s premiere club side, with players having covered themselves in mud, blood and glory on pitches around Indonesia and the wider Southeast Asian region for decades.
The Komodos Seniors play in our domestic tournament, the Jakarta XVs, which currently includes teams from Greater Jakarta, Bandung in West Java and Yogyakarta, with additional teams expected to join as the game continues to grow in popularity in Indonesia.
The Komodos also play in tournaments around Indonesia, including the Bali 10s and our own popular Jakarta 10s in May, and host teams from Southeast Asia and further afield. In addition, the Komodos’ own tours form an integral part of the team’s season, both from sporting and social standpoints.
The Komodos Seniors have represented the cornerstone of club rugby development in Indonesia for decades and are not only the reigning local champions and Indonesia’s winningest team, but also have a handful of other titles from around the region.
The team trains on Tuesdays at 07:00 p.m. at Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) Field 1, Pondok Indah, South Jakarta. These are rugby skills and fitness focused sessions. On Thursdays, many of the team play touch at 07:00 p.m. at JIS too. On Saturdays we play rugby or train at our grounds at the Jagorawi Golf & Country Club on the outskirts of Jakarta.
The Komodos welcome players of all skill levels and the team’s roster includes both semi-professional veterans and those who have never touched an oval ball before. With the Komodos, you learn from those around you. It is this inclusive, social focus that has made the team the force it is today. Join the Komodos and get into rugby.
