Jakarta Komodos Selected to Indonesia Women’s Sevens Rugby Team, Say Thanks
The Jakarta Komodos Rugby Club made history last week when three of its players were selected for inclusion in the national Indonesia Women’s Sevens Rugby Side to tour Singapore. This is a momentous achievement for not only the players and coaches directly involved, but also the wider Komodos Club, our supporters and fantastic sponsors. Indeed, thanks also must be extended to the Persatuan Rugby Union Indonesia and the wider Indonesian rugby family. Below, our players express their appreciation at being named among Indonesia’s newest national athletes.
I want to say huge thanks to Uncle Mike and Mama Jev Hilliard [from the Mama Sayang Orphanage] for allowing me to learn this sport … which I now love!!! I also want to thank Uncle Steve Barber and Uncle Aaron Meadows for being outstanding coaches for us and training us well enough to be selected for Indonesia. I am so proud that we can now be part of the National Team. I will play to my absolute best to make Indonesia and Mama Sayang are so proud of me. I also want to thank God to lead me to people who can help me to be a better person. I know Rugby 7’s is a very tough sport for women and usually played by men, but our team will show everybody just what girls can do. Through my effort I hope I can make the name of Indonesian girls’ rugby great and we can hold our heads high as representatives of this wonderful sport.
Eunike Anggelina Tombokan (Angel)
I feel so honoured to have this chance at my young age. For me to represent Indonesia is a dream come true. Rugby has made my life complete and I am so happy. Please God, I hope we can get some great results, so that we can see all our years of training with Uncle Steve and Uncle Aaron will pay off. Uncle Steve and Uncle Aaron have become like my own father(s). I will do my best for Indonesia and Mama Sayang that is my promise.
Putri Emriani
When Uncle Steve chose me I could not believe it. What an honour and a privilege this is to represent Indonesia. I will play my best to show Uncle Steve and Uncle Aaron just what I can do for Indonesia and I won’t let them down. This is a sport I love so much and I will always be thankful to Uncle Mike and Mama Jev to introduce me to this sport. My life has changed so much because of Rugby and I know Angel and Putri feel the same way too. God gave me this chance and I will be the very best I can and I just can’t wait to go to Singapore!
