Calls for Expressions of Interest in Proposed Junior Rugby Tournament in Bali, Indonesia, in March, 2017
The Jakarta Komodos Junior Rugby Club and the Bali Rugby Club are calling for expressions of interest for a proposed Bali Youth Rugby Tournament in Bali on March 18, 2017. The inaugural event would represent a huge step forward in the development of rugby in Indonesia, among both boys and girls, and provide a great excuse for a fun-filled family holiday on the resort island of Bali.
Johannes Spies, a member of the Jakarta Komodos committee and coach of the Under 12s, said the event, to be held at premier entertainment and sporting venue Canggu Club Bali, was a joint initiative of the Komodos and Bali Rugby Club.
“Being our inaugural tournament, we are seeking expressions of interest at this stage to check if there is sufficient interest from youth rugby teams in Indonesia and throughout Southeast Asia,” Johan said. “Your expression of interest at present will help us to make a decision to proceed with plans and is on a non-commitment basis.”
Depending on the response, a decision would be made to proceed to a formal registration phase.
Johan said the Komodos had a strong and rapidly growing junior rugby programme, but competitive matches were largely limited to overseas tours to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
“The proposed Bali tournament would provide our teams in Indonesia with another chance for some on-field action and an opportunity for regional teams, including from Australia, for a hit-out also. We would love to host them,” he said. “he Komodos are very much about developing rugby in Indonesia and this represents another step forward for promoting a game that has some many positive effects on players and communities.”
The Komodos hosted their inaugural junior tournament at the Jakarta 10s earlier this year, which attracted teams from throughout Indonesia, as well as Malaysia.
