2015 Rugby World Cup Kicks Off in Indonesia with a ‘Get Into Rugby Festival’

Persatuan Rugby Union Indonesia (PRUI) hosted a “Get Into Rugby” (“GIR”) Festival on Saturday, Sept. 19, in conjunction with the start of the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England.

The festival was hosted by the Jakarta Komodos Junior Rugby (JKJR) Club at Jagorawi Golf and Country Club, located south of Jakarta.

A total of 55 children and youths aged from 5-18 years old, including 24 females, as well as Ismail ‘Izzy’ Kadir from Asian Rugby attended the GIR Festival and all thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to have some fun learning about the game via “Get Into Rugby” coaching from a group of JKJR parents led by Jess and Agus Djamhoer. The children and youths were introduced to a few of the GIR Try and Play Modules and for the some of those involved in the Festival this was their first taste of GIR.

There were plenty of smiling faces from all of the children and youths involved in the “GIR” Festival which was a great sign to the representatives from Indonesian Rugby that all enjoyed being involved in the Festival.

Indonesian Rugby would like to thank the JKJR Club for hosting this GIR Festival plus the all the coaches and parents who made this event possible and of course many thanks to all the children and youths who participated in the Festival. The Union is also looking forward to hosting more GIR Festivals in locations outside of Jakarta during the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The Jakarta Komodos Youth Rugby Club has a number of teams, from the Under 18s down to Under 7s, as well as a young woman’s team. The Under 7s/8s and Under 10s are looking particularly strong this season, though the club welcomes any new players into what is a family focused, social club environment.
